Success Story

Charlie cannot wait until 9:00 every morning.
Charlie gets to start working on his wood pile every morning.
Charlie’s wood pile accumulation is the high point of his day.
Charlie has a year and a half supply of wood.
Charlie’s wife Joan passed away in February.

In June, his children were astonished to see the decline in their dad’s vitality in the couple of months since their mom had passed. During a conversation with his son, Kevin we talked about Boomerang Volunteer program and how we can help his father connect with society again. Driving seniors to Dr. appointments, serving meals to those homebound, helping with household chores (including chopping wood) for someone other than himself are some of the suggestions the VCOC gave to the family. We are glad to report that Charlie is now volunteering with Meals on Wheels and attended the last family event where he even participated in conversation. Kevin and his brother and sisters are truly grateful to the VCOC for connecting their father to a volunteer experience. Charlie is now connected and giving back to the community which has given him a new outlook on life. The people impacted by Charlie’s volunteer service receive the assistance to stay independent in their homes, look forward to his visits and now also have that important community connection named Charlie.
