Girl Scouts of Manitou Council – Program Success Story

A mother recently wrote the following thank-you letter to her daughter’s Girl Scouts of Manitou Council troop leader.

Christina has experienced many wonderful things in Girl Scouting. Through these experiences I have seen great improvements in her socialization skills. Every time I pick her up from a troop meeting or a special trip she cannot stop talking about all the things she has done. It is wonderful to listen to her various scouting experiences.

This is a very crucial time for Christina to be involved in Girl Scouting, more so now than ever. Recently she experienced a drawn-out, ugly divorce. It was comforting to know that Christina had a place to call her own, a place to experience the fun and friendship of girls in the troop, a place of belonging which is important to her. She looks so forward to her Girl Scout troop meetings.

You, as her troop leader, have given Christina the chance to take some risks, problem solve and decide what is best for her. The campout you did this weekend, where you let the girls do some mountain biking and kayaking, she will remember the rest of her life. She told me how you allowed the girls to make the decisions of where to kayak. If they encountered a difficult situation, the group got out of their kayaks and onto dry land to determine what their next course would be. She thought that was so “cool,” her words, that you allowed the girls in the troop to decide what to do and you didn’t take control of the situation.

This is Christina’s seventh year in Girl Scouting and each year gets better and better for her. She has grown so much and it is all because of Girl Scouting and your leadership as the troop leader.
