UWNO History

The United Way of Northern Ozaukee (UWNO) has come a long way since its origin in 1950 as a Red Feather Agency. Through our find-raising activities, we have seen our goal increase substantially over the years. Many of our founders were business leaders of the community who shared a vision of financially supporting programs that provide health and social services to the people of Belgium, Fredonia, Port Washington, and Saukville.

  • 1950 - United Red Feather Campaign - Community Chest of Port Washington, Inc. Officers: Erv. Peiffer, Elmer Adam, Joe Barrett, Roger Lauters
  • 1962 - United Fund of Port Washington, Inc.
  • 1982 - United Way of Port Washington & Saukville, Inc.
  • 1997 - United Way of Northern Ozaukee County, Inc. Serving Belgium, Fredonia, Port Washington and Saukville

The Board of Directors consists of 15-20 volunteer members that run the local United Way organization. Terms last for three years. Board members reflect the geographic, economic, cultural and other interests of the community.

UWNO employs a part-time Executive Director who maintains a home office. The Director is responsible for the daily management of the business affairs of the organization, under the authority of the President and the Board of Directors.

The yearly community campaign is held September through November each year. Once the fund-raising campaign is concluded, Board members confirm and approve the agency allocations at the January meeting. Each March a Campaign Breakfast is held to honor business and Heritage Society donors.
